The Lost Sheep
Jesus told this story to explain God’s love.
Once there was a shepherd who had one hundred sheep. Each night he counted them into their pen to keep them safe.
One night he counted as the sheep walked in and there were only ninety nine.
Even though he still had ninety nine sheep the shepherd was very worried about the missing sheep.
He went looking for it and when he found it he carried it safely back to the pen.
In this story God is like the shepherd, caring for everyone.
As an infant school with very young children, this bible passage has been presented in a child friendly format. Please see below for the bible passage.
‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbours together and says, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.” I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent’” (Luke 15:3-7).
